About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Atlanta’s lively Avenue Place, The General Muir serves up a distinguished blend of American and Jewish culinary traditions with remarkable finesse. This beloved restaurant, well-known for its vibrant breakfast and brunch offerings, invites guests to experience authentic flavors that comfort and excite the palate.

The General Muir's menu is a testament to thoughtful, high-quality ingredients and culinary expertise. Renowned dishes like the Nosh of Latkes deliver perfectly crisp, golden potato pancakes that are satisfyingly savory, while the Matzoh Ball Soup offers a soul-soothing warmth that recalls cherished family recipes. For those seeking hearty, flavor-packed sandwiches, the Pastrami & Egg and the iconic Legendary Burger OMG provide rich, layered tastes—juicy meats with fresh, tangy accompaniments, and an undeniable depth of flavor that keeps diners coming back for more.

Breakfast lovers adore the Pecan Crusted French Toast, boasting a delightful crunch paired with a subtle, sweet nuttiness, and the Poached Eggs and Grits, where creamy, buttery grits set the stage for perfectly cooked, velvety eggs. The restaurant’s “Build Your Own Bagel” option lets you customize with fresh, house-made spreads and toppings—from the silky Avenue D Gravlax adorned with salmon roe and chives to the tangy, pickled notes in the Avenue B Baked Salmon Salad.

Beyond the main dishes, sides like the crisp House Salad with pickled red onions and the delicately seasoned Cole Slaw perfectly complement any meal, ensuring a balanced and satisfying dining experience. Sweet tooths will delight in their freshly baked Cinnamon Rolls, the iconic New York-style Black and White cookies, and the pastry basket, which offers an irresistible selection for a light indulgence.

The atmosphere at The General Muir is warm and inviting, boasting a stylish yet comfortable interior where friendly, attentive servers—like the admired Sosa—enhance your meal with genuine care. Whether you're sitting at the bustling bar or tucked away at a cozy table, the ambiance strikes a perfect balance between lively energy and relaxed sophistication.

Patrons consistently highlight the exceptional quality of their food and service. Naftali Kaminski praises the perfectly seasoned Chopped Liver and the delightfully fresh, crisp pickles, while pcarruth2 calls the Reuben sandwich “go-to” for its mouthwatering pastrami and sauerkraut combo. The chicken club sandwich even earned Lillian Carpenter’s title of “the best sandwich I have ever eaten,” a testament to the generosity of portions and harmony of flavors.

Whether you're seeking a cherished spot for a comforting brunch, a casual lunch with friends, or a leisurely breakfast that feels like a special occasion, The General Muir delivers an experience that is both authentically Jewish and refreshingly American—in food, atmosphere, and heart.

I had two lunches and ate at the bar. The place is beautiful and the servers friendly and helpful - my fountain sparkling water glass was refilled constantly. Coffee was great. Chopped liver was perfect, Reuben and Tuna sandwiches were also terrific, pickles were crisp, and coleslaw seasoned very delicately (not too sour or too sweet which commonly happens) which worked very well. I’d definitely return!!!

Great spot with amazing sandwiches, matzah ball soup, pastries, bagels, and really everything on the menu. Their Reuben is go-to with that delicious pastrami, sauerkraut, melted cheese, and fresh baked rye. The Pastrami & Egg is a close second though. Their everything bagels are so garlicky and delicious. The Chicken Club is another favorite, and you gotta grab a few Black and White cookies on your way out. Theirs are as good as it gets. Lovely coffees as well and of course, fantastic gravlax. The General Muir is always a great spot!

This is one of my favorite brunch spots in Atlanta. Sometimes service can be a little slow when they are busy, but that is to be expected since they are really popular. Their coffees are pretty good and I also get a cookie to pair with it. Their brunch entrees are all hits! I recommend the fish and potatoes, the general, and the smoked hash. Overall, a great brunch spot that we keep in the rotation.

The food was delicious, and the service was amazing--our server, Sosa, was an absolute sweetheart and took great care of us! We had the roast chicken, NY strip steak, and strawberry mascarpone cheese cake. All of it was great, and we also got some cookies and matzah ball soup to-go so we could try them later. By the end of the meal, we were already talking about coming back next week to try more things on the menu. Looking forward to it!

Their chicken club is the best sandwich I have ever eaten. That is not an over exaggeration- the flavors meld together so beautifully and it’s clear they use high quality ingredients. Portions are huge too!

Pretty solid Jewish style food. They have a shellfish/ pork free kitchen but the restaurant is not kosher. I got the spaghetti and meatballs and it was a 3 course meal which was pretty cool. As for the rest of the party they got salmon, and a burger which they enjoyed. The "truffle fries" needs some work. they could use a little but more cheese and garnish, they were kinda dry. For the desserts the cheesecake was incredible and huge and the tiramisu was good and a decent size portion. The ambience feels very classic NYC. I have to come back for their bakery items and breakfast.
